TAG’s Promise: Show you how to minimize the mess and stress that often plagues programs.
Situation: The City of Alexandria’s most urgent concern was to implement a flexwork program that did not result in any equity issues among those employees who held a very diverse set of job-types and job-tasks. At the same time, the City wanted to strengthen employee retention and ultimately obtain a positive return-on-investment from the program. The City proposed moving forward with a pilot program to prove the concept to its employees and the citizens of the city, overcome the concerns of managers, and begin collecting critical data.
Solution: TAG worked in collaboration with City of Alexandria Human Resource representatives to develop the policies, guidelines and agreements necessary to educate employees, provide support to the managers of flexworkers and ensure an equitable program implementation among employees. Representatives from HR, IT, records and other operational groups attended multiple Flexwork Fundamentals workshops. After the flexwork coordinators had been trained and the policies and procedures were finalized the pilot program was launched. Workgroups with employees that represented a diverse set of job-types were selected to participate in the pilot.
Benefits: The pilot program, with the associated metrics and outcomes identified, provided a positive demonstration of flexwork benefits for the City of Alexandria and persuasive evidence for those departments that did not participate in the pilot that flexwork is not only feasible but beneficial. Michelle, I’m trying to get an update. Last time I checked in the Fall the rollout was delayed for some reason.
